Angel Aligners vs Invisalign: How They Compare

Angel Aligner and Invisalign both straighten teeth with a sequence of removable, custom-made trays. For suitable cases they work in the same way. They differ in the company that makes them, the tray material and the planning software and features. At our practice, Angel Aligner is estimated at $500 less than Invisalign.

Similarities

Both begin with an assessment and an iTero scan. You review a simulation of the planned movement, which is a planning guide rather than a promise. You then wear each set of trays for most of the day, change them on schedule, attend reviews and wear retainers at the end. Neither system is invisible.

Differences

Who makes them

Invisalign is made by Align Technology in the United States. Angel Aligner is made by Angelalign Technology, a clear aligner company founded in 2003, headquartered in Shanghai and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Materials

Angel trays use a multi-layer material Angelalign calls masterControl S, while Invisalign uses SmartTrack. Each manufacturer describes its material as designed for steady, controlled force. How trays feel varies between people.

Planning features

Angelalign describes features such as angelButton hooks for elastics, angelAttach attachments and an Intelligent Root System that can use 3D x-ray (CBCT) data to model roots and bone. Invisalign has its own attachment and elastic options. Your dentist decides which features your plan needs.

Are Angel aligners as good as Invisalign?

For suitable cases, both are established systems that can achieve planned tooth movement when worn as prescribed. Neither is right for every patient. The diagnosis, the plan and how consistently you wear the trays usually matter more than the brand.
