Clear Aligners in Canberra

Straightening Teeth With Removable Aligners

Civic Gentle Dental Care, on London Circuit in Canberra City, provides three clear aligner systems: Invisalign, Spark and Angel Aligner. Each uses a series of removable, custom-made trays that shift teeth a little at a time.

Whether any of them suits you depends on your teeth, gums and bite. We check those at a complimentary consultation, and we will tell you if fixed braces or a specialist orthodontist would serve you better.

How Clear Aligner Treatment Works

Clear aligners are also known as clear braces, invisible aligners or transparent aligners. Your trays are designed from a digital scan of your teeth. Each set is worn for one to two weeks, as your dentist directs, before you move to the next.

Trays need to be in for most of the day, usually 20 to 22 hours. You remove them to eat, to drink anything other than plain water, and to brush and floss.

Aligners are more discreet than metal braces but not invisible. Small tooth-coloured attachments are often bonded to a few teeth, and the trays can be seen at close range.

What Clear Aligners Can Help With

Subject to assessment, clear aligners may be used for:

  • crowded, rotated or overlapping teeth
  • spaces and gaps between teeth
  • some overbite, underbite and crossbite concerns
  • teeth that have moved since earlier orthodontic treatment

Significant jaw discrepancies or complex bite problems may be better treated with fixed braces or by a specialist. Our orthodontics page covers the other options we provide.

Invisalign, Spark and Angel Aligner Side by Side

The three systems follow the same principle. Where they differ is the manufacturer, the tray material and the software used to plan your tooth movements. Your dentist recommends one after your assessment and explains the reasons.

Clear Aligners or Braces?

Fixed braces, in metal or ceramic, stay on your teeth for the whole treatment. That suits some complex movements and removes the need to remember to wear anything.

Aligners can be taken out for meals and cleaning, which many adults prefer. The trade-off is that results depend on wearing them as prescribed. We will explain which approach fits your case. See braces at Civic Gentle Dental Care.

Your Clear Aligner Journey in Canberra

  1. Complimentary consultation. We examine your teeth, gums and bite, take x-rays if needed and discuss your goals and options, including braces or no treatment.
  2. Digital scan and photos. We take an iTero scan and photos of your teeth to design your plan.
  3. Plan review. You see a 3D simulation of the planned movement. It is a planning aid, not a guaranteed result. You receive a written estimate before deciding.
  4. Wearing your aligners. You change trays as directed and come in for regular reviews.
  5. Retainers. Retainers help stop teeth drifting back once active treatment ends.

Clear Aligner Cost in Canberra

Our current price guide estimates Invisalign treatment at $4,200 to $8,990 and Spark or Angel Aligner treatment at $3,700 to $8,490. Where you fall within each range depends on the amount of movement needed, the number of aligners and whether refinements are required.

Your first clear aligner consultation is complimentary. Interest-free payment plans are available through external providers, subject to approval, and estimates are valid for six months. Some private health extras policies with orthodontic cover contribute, so check with your fund using the item numbers on your written estimate.

Risks and Limitations

  • Pressure or tenderness when you start each new tray
  • Temporary lisping and irritation of the gums, cheeks or tongue
  • A higher risk of decay and gum inflammation if teeth and trays are not kept clean
  • Root shortening and changes to tooth vitality, which may need further treatment
  • Some planned movements may not be achieved, and treatment length cannot be guaranteed
  • Any reshaping of enamel between teeth is irreversible
  • Teeth can relapse if retainers are not worn as directed
