Spark and Invisalign are clear aligner systems that move teeth with a series of removable, custom-made trays. They treat a similar range of cases and follow the same basic process. The real differences are who makes them, what the trays are made from and the software used to plan treatment. At Civic Gentle Dental Care in Canberra City, Spark is estimated at $500 less than Invisalign.

What stays the same
- Your trays are designed from an iTero digital scan of your teeth
- You wear them most of the day and remove them to eat, drink anything other than plain water, and clean your teeth
- Tooth-coloured attachments may be bonded to some teeth
- You review a simulation of the planned movement before starting. It is a planning aid, not a guaranteed result
- Regular reviews during treatment, and retainers afterwards
What differs
Manufacturer
Invisalign comes from Align Technology. Spark comes from Ormco, an orthodontic manufacturer that also produces brackets and wires.
Tray material
Invisalign uses SmartTrack. Spark uses TruGEN, which Ormco says is designed for clarity and stain resistance, with polished, scalloped edges. Comfort and appearance are individual, and some people notice little difference between the two.
Planning software
Invisalign is planned in ClinCheck and Spark in Approver. Both show the planned tooth movement step by step. Ormco says Approver also lets dentists add cut-outs, hooks and bite ramps.
Which should you choose?
Neither system is better for every patient, and manufacturer comparisons are marketing claims rather than independent evidence. What usually matters more is an accurate diagnosis, a well-planned treatment and wearing the trays as prescribed. We recommend a system after your assessment and explain why. Sometimes braces or a specialist orthodontist are the better choice.

Does Spark work as well as Invisalign?
Both can achieve planned tooth movement in suitable cases when worn as prescribed. Results depend on the case and how consistently the trays are worn.
Do Spark aligners stain less?
Ormco says TruGEN is designed to resist staining, but tea, coffee and red wine can mark any aligner. Remove your trays when drinking anything other than plain water.
